CATAN Tournament

**Black Swamp Gamers will be holding a CATAN Tournament SATURDAY, NOVEMBER 9th starting at 1PM.**

In order for this tournament to work, we MUST have 12 to 16 seats reserved with each participant providing a $10 donation by tournament start date. If all seats have not been reserved by then, adjustments to prizes can be discussed with participants OR if the minimum seats have not been reached, we would have to reschedule the date to allow for more time for possible participants to join.

• While this is NOT an officially sanctioned CATAN Studio tournament, all gameplay rules will loosely follow Tournament rules listed here – https://catanevents.com/hosts/tournament-rules/
• Gameplay will ONLY be with the BASE game, no expansions will be used.
• A Tournament Judge will be moving between the 4 tables if there are any questions about any player actions. Please call out if a rule clarification is needed
• ALL PLAYERS must clearly state their turn intensions, first by resolve ALL dice rolls, providing resources or moving the robber, then continue with player action. If player is turning in resources, please CLEARLY and FULLY show all cards being presented to not be accused of shorting the cost.
• In all Prelim Rounds, the starting player will handle the resource supply.
• All Prelim Rounds will have a MAX time length of 1HR with a timer on our display TV to show everyone how much time is remaining. This is to encourage consistent gameplay as well as preventing collusion in a manner that someone may be prolonging the game to prevent someone else from winning.
• All Prelim Rounds will have randomly predetermined board layouts as well as seat randomization for each player, each round. IT IS POSSIBLE you will be at the same table but hopefully you’ll be with other players as well as a new layout each round.

Tournament Scoring will be determined in the following manner:

• There will be 3 PRELIMINARY ROUNDS played and possibly a 4th if there are too many “same score” total percentages. Once those games are completed, we will then have our top 4 play for the CHAMPIONSHIP ROUND. See spreadsheet day of tournament for percentage calculations.
• Calculation Method for Victory Point Percentage (VP%):
  • For Player A, Game 1:
    • Player A earned 10 VPs, and there were 32 VPs total at the table.
    • A’s VP% for this game is: 31.25%
  • Game 2:
    • Player A earned 8 VPs, and there were 30 VPs at the table.
    • A’s VP% for this game is: 26.67%
  • Game 3:
  • Player A earned 10 VPs, and there were 36 VPs at the table.
  • A’s VP% for this game is: 27.78%
  • A’s Total VP% is: 85.70 (31.25+26.67+27.78)
  • For Player B, Game 1:
    • Player B earned 10 VPs, and there were 30 VPs at the table.
    • B’s VP% for this game is: 33.33%
  • Game 2:
    • Player B earned 10 VPs, and there were 33 VPs at the table.
    • B’s VP% for this game is: 30.3%
  • Game 3:
    • Player B earned 8 VPs, and there were 36 VPs at the table.
    • B’s VP% for this game is: 22.22%
  • B’s Total VP% is: 85.85 (33.33+30.3+22.22)
  • Player B is therefore ranked higher than Player A.
• Top 4 will play in the final championship round. Additional prizes will be determined at a later date but we anticipate that (Numbers based on 16 participants):
  • 3rd place – a gift of $10
  • 2nd place – a gift of $20
  • 1st place – a gift of $50
  • All 4 championship round participants will recieve other misc BSG branded items as well for reaching the final table (optional)
  • DISCLAIMER – Note that BSG officers may be in attendance to participate in any club tournament. If there is, the officer will be ineligible to receive any prize money for themselves but the money will then be donated back to the club.

We will be filling seats in a first come, first served basis. If needed, we will also have a wait list if someone has to drop out last minute to then fill the reserved seat.
